Message from Our President
|
People ask me all the time “What is Rotary?”
Throughout Rotary’s history, several basic principles have been developed to guide Rotarians in achieving the ideal of service and high ethical standards.
The Object of Rotary provides a definition of the organization’s purpose as well as the club member’s responsibilities. The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of “service:”
FIRST — The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
SECOND — High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of all occupations; the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
THIRD — The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;
FOURTH — The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship.
Avenues of Service
Based on the Object of Rotary, the Avenues of Service are Rotary’s philosophical foundation on which club activity is based.
Each Avenue of Service will fulfill an Object of Rotary.
FIRST — Club Service focuses on strengthening fellowship and ensuring the effective functioning of the club.
SECOND — Vocational Service encourages Rotarians to serve others through their vocations and to practice high ethical standards.
THIRD — Community Service covers the projects and activities the club undertakes to improve life in its community.
FOURTH — International Service encompasses actions taken to expand Rotary’s humanitarian reach around the globe and to promote world understanding and peace.
The Rotary Club of College Park has 27 members; part of a network of 1.2 million Rotarians around the world. We meet weekly and fulfill the Object of Rotary through our professional relationships, community service, and fundraisers for various local and international charities and foundations.
Our most visible projects in the College Park community include our Student of the Month recognition from four schools, annual Book Drive, sponsorship of a room at the Ronald McDonald House, Edgewater Drive clean up, and weekly Meals on Wheels. We do all this in the spirit of fun, fellowship and service.
Please join us for a meeting!
Whether you want to make acquaintance or to see if you are a potential Rotarian, the door is always open. We meet at the Dubsdread Golf Club banquet room every Thursday morning at 7:30.
